NetApp Certifies PoINT Storage Manager for OnTAP 8.3 and StorageGRID Webscale 10.1

Euroson America, Inc., the North American distribution partner for PoINT Software & Systems GmbH, announces that PoINT Storage Manager Version 5.1 has been certified by NetApp, Inc. supporting NetApp Clustered Data OnTAP 8.3 and NetApp StorageGRID Webscale 10.1.

For over five years PoINT has been a NetApp Alliance Partner and during that period the number of installations where PoINT Storage Manager is operational in tandem with NetApp storage products has increased. With this release PoINT extends its cooperation in technology with NetApp offering a software solution which archives the growing amount of inactive data. Using PoINT Storage Manager inactive data stored on expensive primary storage is offloaded to archive while leaving reparse points (Stubbing) so that access to the data by applications and end users unchanged.

By supporting Clustered Data ONTAP (cDOT) and offering integrated tiering and archiving PoINT enhances the NetApp product approach of providing flexible and scalable storage platforms. PoINT Storage Manager supports not only the CIFS protocol but also NFS volumes which result in a multi-protocol archiving solution based on the cDOT storage platform. The ‘Pass Through’ mechanism of PoINT Storage Manager ensures that archived data is not restored on the cDOT system during read operations.

In addition PoINT Storage Manager also adds ‘NetApp Compatible’ certified integration of StorageGRID Webscale as an archive device within a multi-tiered storage environment, providing automated policy based archiving from NetApp FAS systems while retaining transparent access via links using NetApp F-Policy. It also supports EMC Corp. and Windows servers as data source, allowing these users to take advantage of StorageGRID Webscale.
