Veeam Availability Suite v9
Reduces TCO of backup, lowers hardware costs and simplifies backup management in complex enterprise environments.
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on October 29, 2015 at 2:06 pmVeeam Software AG announced that Availability Suite v9 will include a storage capability that reduces the TCO of backup storage, lowers hardware costs and simplifies backup storage management in complex enterprise environments: the Unlimited Scale-out Backup Repository.
Managing backup storage is a headache for the enterprise; in no small part because the exponential rate of data growth is outpacing the ability of legacy solutions to manage it efficiently and cost-effectively.
“Both production and protection storage volumes are growing around 40% year-over-year, while data protection budgets are growing roughly one-tenth of that,” according to Jason Buffington, senior analyst, data protection, ESG. “The irony is that IT is being asked to increase their availability and agility to recover, but aren’t even able to maintain the status quo with legacy approaches to backup, in part due to storage requirements.“
With Availability requirements demanding RTPOs (recovery time and point objectives) of less than 15 minutes for all applications and data, today’s enterprises are facing the real challenge of ensuring optimum levels of Availability with a data protection budget that cannot keep pace. Thanks to Availability Suite v9, customers gain a new tool to combat the costs and complexity that come with exponential data growth.
“With Veeam, enterprise IT can go beyond legacy backup to embrace true data center availability for all data and applications,” said Ratmir Timashev, CEO, Veeam. “Our new Unlimited Scale-out Backup Repository capability is another example of how we’re taking full advantage of new technologies to improve availability for the enterprise. In this case, the result is dramatic simplification and cost reduction for backup storage management, making it easier and more cost effective to provide ‘always-on’ performance.“
Company’s Unlimited Scale-out Backup Repository overcomes these challenges by creating a single backup repository from a collection of almost any storage devices. The benefits are many, including:
-
Simplified backup storage management in complex enterprise environments: Enterprises can increase backup storage capacity infinitely by simply adding almost any storage device to the single pool. By leveraging all available capacity intelligently, backup storage availability is dramatically improved: lack of free space on a particular storage device or even its temporary unavailability does not result in failed backups and missed RPOs.
-
Leverage existing storage resources: The Unlimited Scale-out Backup Repository enables the enterprise to leverage its current storage investment to reduce costs. In fact, The company increases the effective capacity of existing storage by 30 or more% by being able to leverage disk space that typically goes unused in a legacy backup storage environment, dramatically reducing the overall storage spend.
-
Increase performance: Using the backup files placement policy, full and incremental backup files can be assigned to separate storage devices for improved backup and recovery performance by leveraging I/O capacity of multiple devices with a single job. With this, the Unlimited Scale-out Backup Repository enables lower RTPOs and reduced risk of data loss thereby empowering the enterprise to optimize its use of storage resources.
“The contradiction between the need to raise IT resiliency and agility while trying to reduce storage burdens is adding complexity and burden to many folks’ IT infrastructures,” added Buffington,. “Veeam’s new Unlimited Scale-out Backup Repository should help alleviate those burdens by simplifying backup target storage, which ought to further ease administration while providing flexibility to backup and virtualization administrators who have more strategic tasks to do than managing their underlying storage pool.“
Company’s Availability Suite v9 will be available later this year.
