Veeam Availability Suite v9

Veeam Software AG announced that Availability Suite v9 will include a storage capability that reduces the TCO of backup storage, lowers hardware costs and simplifies backup storage management in complex enterprise environments: the Unlimited Scale-out Backup Repository.

Managing backup storage is a headache for the enterprise; in no small part because the exponential rate of data growth is outpacing the ability of legacy solutions to manage it efficiently and cost-effectively.

“Both production and protection storage volumes are growing around 40% year-over-year, while data protection budgets are growing roughly one-tenth of that,” according to Jason Buffington, senior analyst, data protection, ESG. “The irony is that IT is being asked to increase their availability and agility to recover, but aren’t even able to maintain the status quo with legacy approaches to backup, in part due to storage requirements.“

With Availability requirements demanding RTPOs (recovery time and point objectives) of less than 15 minutes for all applications and data, today’s enterprises are facing the real challenge of ensuring optimum levels of Availability with a data protection budget that cannot keep pace. Thanks to Availability Suite v9, customers gain a new tool to combat the costs and complexity that come with exponential data growth.

Company’s Unlimited Scale-out Backup Repository overcomes these challenges by creating a single backup repository from a collection of almost any storage devices. The benefits are many, including:

• Simplified backup storage management in complex enterprise environments: Enterprises can increase backup storage capacity infinitely by simply adding almost any storage device to the single pool. By leveraging all available capacity intelligently, backup storage availability is dramatically improved: lack of free space on a particular storage device or even its temporary unavailability does not result in failed backups and missed RPOs.
