Egnyte Assigned Patent for Object Store

Egnyte, Inc. was awarded U.S. patent 9,135,269 B2 from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for a system and method of implementing an object storage infrastructure for cloud-based services.

The patented technology is the foundation of the company’s Egnyte Object Store (EOS), which decides where customer data is stored, whether in company’s data center or third-party data centers like Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud Storage, and utilizes commodity storage without compromising security or performance.

“This is an important patent for our company and our customers. EOS is the lifeblood of Egnyte and is relied upon for managing multi-petabytes of our customers’ data, with support for native storage, as well as delegated storage into multiple third- party public clouds,” said Rajesh Ram, co-founder and chief customer officer, Egnyte. “The technology has allowed storage at scale to become technically and economically efficient at Egnyte, which is a major a competitive differentiator for our platform.“

By leveraging the proprietary EOS technology, the company is able provide a secure, open platform that will work with third-party storage vendors. This approach offers customers more options for their storage requirements and is beneficial to highly regulated industries that have specific requirements about where their data resides.
