Scality Assigned Patent

Probabilistic offload engine for distributed hierarchical object storage devices

Scality S.A., Paris, France, has been assigned a patent (9,152,648) developed by Regni, Giorgio, Gramain, Jonathan, Paris, France, Rancurel, Vianney, La Frette-sur-Seine, France, Artuso, Benoit, Maisons-Lafitte, France, Demiddelaer, Bertrand, Levallois-Perret, France, and Tauch, Alain, Montrouge, France, for a “probabilistic offload engine for distributed hierarchical object storage devices.

The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: ”A method and system having a probabilistic offload engine for distributed hierarchical object storage devices is disclosed. According to one embodiment, a system comprises a first storage system and a second storage system in communication with the first storage system. The first storage system and the second storage system are key/value based object storage devices that store and serve objects. The first storage system and the second storage system execute a probabilistic algorithm to predict access patterns. The first storage system and the second storage system execute a probabilistic algorithm to predict access patterns and minimize data transfers between the first storage system and the second storage system.“

The patent application was filed on December 9, 2010 (12/964,656).
