Onyx Brings Features to Backup Clients With Asigra V13 Software
To protect and secure Microsoft 365 data
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on October 9, 2015 at 2:38 pmAs of 28th of September all Onyx Group‘s backup customers can benefit from an array of features due to an upgrade in the software from backup partner Asigra, Inc.
This update replaces the previous software (V12.2) with the V13 and has been tested by the company’s cloud team.
Alongside a magnitude of tweaks and performance upgrades, Onyx has highlighted a few elements which it believes will be beneficial to backup clients, not least of which is improved data protection for Office 365 users.
By using an company’s cloud backup solution from Asigra, organisations are able to protect and secure their Microsoft 365 data at all times. This latest integration allows companies to recover data including Exchange Online, SharePoint workspaces, OneDrive repositories, documents and spreadsheets using continual automation protection.
Why current Office 365 data might not be as secure as you previously imagined:
-
Compliance: Many organisations are under strict regulations in terms of document and email retention where large fines can be administered for failing to comply. By default, any Office 365 data is non-recoverable after a maximum of 30 days if it has been deleted, and after 90 days should your subscription end. Backing up your data externally can ensure that you comply with industry regulations regardless of your subscription status.
-
Liability: Assuming you can prove the fault was caused by Microsoft, the limit of their liability is $5000 or your last 12 months subscription fees. This may not come close to the liability you face if your data is lost meaning keeping an external backup is an advisable technique to provide additional redundancy.
-
Audit rights: Should you be required, as part of an audit, to show the physical storage location of your data, the Office 365 terms of service prevent you from doing so. Hence why an external secure backup may be an appropriate work around to this problem.
-
Vendor lock-in: Having all of your Office 365 data in the Microsoft cloud effectively locks you in to Microsoft, for better or for worse. Maintaining an external backup allows you to keep your options open making it easier to migrate to another office suite should you wish to do so.
Asigra V13 can help you secure your Office 365 data in number of ways, including:
-
Easily schedule automatic backups of your data in key MS Office 365.
-
Establish and automatically apply backup rules using a simple Asigra UI. The interface also helps you quickly recover your data back into Office 365 or to another location.
-
Easily accommodate different levels of protection for different groups of Office 365 users with custom backup sets.
-
Protect all editions of Office 365, without needing to purchase minimum edition levels or special add on features.
Other features which have been released in Asigra V13 include:
-
Converged data protection – More integrated options for DR, backup and recovery, backup archiving and security to meet the convergence of data protection needs in a cost-effective and hassle-free way.
-
DR-as-a-Service enablement – vSphere replication is now included to meet rigorous RTOs. The new capability allows for replication without backup to one or more warm, on or offsite replicas.
-
Optimized support for open infrastructure – Optimised support for open infrastructure choices like FreeBSD on ZFS and CentOS running on commodity hardware servers and storage.
-
LTFS integration – Automated parking of old backup data to LTFS tape via the Asigra BLM Archiver to easily align the cost of protection to the value of data.
-
Docker container backup/recovery – Asigra Cloud Backup provides a comprehensive data recovery solution for application data in these environments, on-premise and in the cloud.
-
Mobile device geo-location and remote wipe – Integrated geo-location and remote wipe to help enterprises close the mobile endpoint security hole. The feature allows users to find the location of lost or stolen devices quickly.
-
Microsoft SCCM integration – Allows IT administrators to easily and cost effectively deploy and configure Asigra Cloud Backup client software across thousands of Windows mobile endpoints not connected to the LAN.
