Catalyst Housing in UK Selects Atlantis Computing

Atlantis Computing, Inc., provider of software-defined storage (SDS), has delivered a 10x desktop performance improvement for over 600 users at Catalyst Housing Ltd, a UK housing association with 21,000 homes across London and the South East of England.

The Atlantis SDS solution was 20% more cost effective to purchase than other storage solutions evaluated by Catalyst.

Catalyst had serious performance issues with its previous storage hardware that underpinned its desktop environment. The Atlantis solution integrated with the storage hardware that Catalyst already had in its network and only required the purchase of some extra RAM to accommodate the anticipated future growth in user numbers. Atlantis was also selected due to its ability to scale out to accommodate growth in user numbers.

Catalyst wanted to migrate to Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2013 to offer improved IT capabilities for its staff. It carried out an evaluation of three potential options from Nimble, Nexsan and SDS from Atlantis. The Atlantis solution was installed in one day, and currently supports a VDI environment used by 95% of Catalyst’s 650 employees.

“Atlantis was absolutely the fastest; the other two products tested simply couldn’t compare,” said Konrad Kowal, technical architect, Catalyst.

“Our performance tests show that the Atlantis software-defined storage solution is 10 times faster than our previous hardware-based storage platform. We have freed up 85% of the storage on our shared storage platform, thanks to the Atlantis compression capabilities,” says Kowal.

This means the association won’t have to purchase additional storage hardware for more users over the next three to five years enabling them to gain a far better return on prior IT investments.
