ownCloud Triples Revenue
And doubles customer base.
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on September 29, 2015 at 3:04 pmApproaching its 4th birthday, ownCloud, Inc., in open source enterprise file sync and share (EFSS) software, unveiled its growth trajectory, tripling revenue year-over-year and doubling its worldwide customer base in the last 12 months.
With 900,000 enterprise users across 42 countries and more than 2.5 million community users on all seven continents, ownCloud has proven that organizations increasingly prefer on-premise EFSS solutions that integrate with their existing infrastructure.
Highlighting its inherent extensibility, marquee customers like sciebo have scaled ownCloud to support 500K users across 22 federated clouds using Federated Cloud Sharing. At CERN, the European organization for nuclear research, a system based on ownCloud can access over 120PB of research data.
According to Terri McClure, senior analyst, Enterprise Strategy Group, ownCloud’s solution continues to be “an excellent choice for organizations that want to run EFSS on-premises, keeping control of and managing their system and their files, while leaving content in their current location.“
“Enterprise customers are gravitating to ownCloud because it is no longer a one-size-fits-all world for enterprise file sync and share solutions,” said McClure. “Today, IT teams want on-premise and hybrid options that give them the power to choose where their data gets stored, as well as the ability to leverage existing enterprise technology while making file sharing and collaboration easier and faster for demanding mobile workforces.“
The open source community behind ownCloud has seen parallel gains with 250% annual growth in the number of active community members worldwide and more than six million downloads of ownCloud server, desktop and mobile clients in the last year. A recent contributor conference in Berlin, Germany drew 150+ participants surpassing last year’s event by 40%. ownCloud continued its push for improved security with the launching of its Security Bug Bounty program. Since its inception two weeks ago, more than 100 different submitters have joined the program. Initiatives like these highlight ownCloud’s commitment to secure file sharing across the globe.
“We are thrilled to see our on-premise EFSS solutions gain rapid adoption in key markets around the world,” said ownCloud co-founder and CEO Markus Rex. “IT teams and users want to control their own destinies instead of feeling restrained by outdated, restrictive file sharing approaches. Companies of all sizes are examining data sovereignty requirements and are choosing to leverage existing investments. They’ve chosen ownCloud to provide Universal File Access to securely manage, control and view their corporate data, especially in increasingly volatile compliance and regulatory environments where change is always a given.“
It is estimated that ownCloud is managing more than 25 billion files as it reaches across structured and unstructured data silos to provide universal file access to any device.
“This past year has been the best in ownCloud company history“, said Rex. “Our increased sales, customer and community numbers show the success we have had to date, and the uptick in both usage per customer and the continued innovation in our products and initiatives, we are poised for even better things in the future. Stay tuned.“
