Advancements in company’s solutions for global enterprises will include regional European data center capabilities, SSAE 16 SOC2 certification, data restoration features, and customer-managed encryption keys.

“Our latest annual survey of Salesforce admins shows an appreciable increase in the awareness of the importance of data protection for Salesforce,” said Jeff Erramouspe, VP and GM, Spanning by EMC. “At the same time, the survey showed more than 73% of organizations do not use third-party backup, leaving their Salesforce data at risk to user-driven data loss. Our continued focus on customer needs – including those who require that their Salesforce data stay in Europe – and our backing by EMC, make Spanning a trusted enterprise backup and recovery solution for Salesforce data.

New European data center for Salesforce data
European data and privacy policies dictate that organizations prove that data is stored within the European Economic Area and not transmitted outside of the area. Salesforce’s expansion in Europe opens the market for companies to use the platform with the confidence that data will remain in the region.

Europe is the epicenter of the data sovereignty debate and organizations here of all sizes are struggling to comply with the strict data governance regulations. The ability to backup and restore European SaaS data directly, without the information ever crossing borders, is an absolute business-critical capability,” said Holger Mueller, VP and principal analyst, Constellation Research, Inc.

Spanning Backup for Salesforce provides customers a choice of backup destinations – either in the US or in Europe. By offering a new data center option, the company gives European companies running Salesforce the ability to protect their data and ensure that their production data and backup data never leaves the region, in order to meet data sovereignty requirements.

SSAE 16 SOC 2 audit certification
The company has achieved SSAE 16 SOC 2 certification. This demonstrates company’s commitment to exceed compliance and security-related requirements for controls and safeguards when hosting customer data. This achievement reinforces Spanning’s position as a trusted SaaS data protection provider.

Spanning backup for Salesforce restore enhancements
The company has made it even easier for Salesforce customers to restore their data. Based on collaborative Salesforce use case discussions with customers, Spanning is delivering a host of new capabilities building on its industry-leading restore functionality.

  • Recovery for permanently deleted items: Users can restore deleted data directly back into Salesforce with all its related data. Company’s restore process will automatically take care of inserting data back into Salesforce in the right order to preserve ‘parent-child’ relationships.

  • Bulk restore: Spanning Backup for Salesforce offers a tightly integrated, in-app bulk restore, allowing Salesforce administrators to search for both updated and deleted items (including items deleted more than 90 days ago) – and quickly restore them with an option to preserve ‘parent-child’ relationships for deleted items.

  • Single object restores made easier: The Universal Restore Button from Spanning makes it easy to get lost or deleted data back into its proper place quickly. Now users have one convenient button that automatically activates when single-item on-page restores are possible.

Salesforce encryption key self-management
To retain control over access to their encrypted data and meet compliance or regulatory controls requirements, many organizations want to have their data stored and encrypted using encryption keys that they control and manage.

Spanning Backup for Salesforce will soon allow enterprise customers to self-manage encryption keys, enabling them to better meet their organization’s security and compliance requirements. The feature is being piloted this fall and is expected to be available in 2016.
