Whilst cloud computing and video streaming, supported by server farms using ultra-high capacity HDDs, have seen impressive growth in recent years, there remains significant demand today for quality recordable optical media.

Within its storage product portfolio, Verbatim already supplies a range of optical solutions for home use, professional duplication and archival applications. These continue to deliver strong sales for the company. Unlike some manufacturers who rely on external sources for their key raw materials and production processes, Verbatim benefits from parent company Mitsubishi Kagaku Media‘s purchasing power and established sourcing arrangements. Verbatim is committed to optical media for the long term and it has an on-going R&D programme and continues to develop products.

Earlier this year Verbatim introduced the M-DiSC, a range of optical discs (available in DVD or Blu-ray formats) that enable consumers and business professionals to utilise large-scale optical storage for ultra-long lifetime backup for archiving of important data. The durable M-DISC enables data to be laser etched into an inorganic rock-like material (unavailable with any other recordable media) known to last for many centuries.

Verbatim is the world’s leading supplier of optical media. Other players may be exiting the optical media business, but Verbatim views such developments as an opportunity to further strengthen our market position and provide customers with the high quality and high performance products they deserve,” comments Chris Chalder, business development manager, optical media, Verbatim. “The use of proprietary and patented materials such as AZO recording dye, stampers, polycarbonate, UV coatings alongside the Mitsubishi Kagaku Media media ID and the most stringent quality assurance systems in the industry, means that Verbatim optical media products are second to none in terms of recording quality, compatibility and lifetime.

The stability, reliability and longevity of company’s optical media has been proven in tests. The results indicate that the discs are manufactured to production standards that are at least 66% higher than standard products available in the market.

While recordable optical products provide long-term reliability and an attractive off-site, offline backup solution to online services, the company already benefits from sales of alternatives to optical media including portable HDDs, SSDs and SD card solutions which it also sells.
