Rugged 2.5-Inch SSD From Smart High Reliability Solutions in Volume Production

SMART High Reliability Solutions announced its HRS-S3 2.5″ SATA 6Gb/s SSD, which has been sampling with key customers, is now available in volume quantities to qualified customers.

As the latest in a robust line of products from SMART HRS that emphasizes the company’s exclusive focus on solid-state storage solutions, the HRS-S3 is for industrial temperature applications.

Building on the accomplishments of SMART HRS’s line of SSD products for the defense industry, the HRS-S3 SSD delivers performance metrics of 500MB/s sequential read and 400MB/s sequential write speeds while delivering 35,000 IO/s and 20,000 IO/s respectively during random operation.

Using reliable SLC NAND flash, the HRS-S3 is available in capacities ranging from 120 to 960GB.

On top of a greater than 10 year data retention at 25°C, SMART HRS has incorporated a host of reliability features into the HRS-S3 starting with a backup power circuit comprised of high-reliability capacitors that prevent data loss in the event of unplanned power interruptions. The error correction capability of the HRS-S3 allows it to correct up to 28 bits for every 1024 bytes, and end-to-end CRC protection guards against data corruption along the entire data path, delivering an uncorrectable bit error rate (UBER) of 1×10-17.

The HRS-S3 SSD offers customers two separate and complementary levels of data security. First, the Secure Data Elimination Technology (SDET) functionality supports all of the major NSA and DOD sanitization algorithms, as well as IRIG while SDET makes it possible to completely erase and sanitize every block of flash in a compliant fashion. Second, all user data stored on the HRS-S3 SSD is automatically encrypted with AES 256-bit encryption. When the two are combined in the HRS-S3, SDET deletes the encryption key in less than 1 second, and then erases the entire Flash array in less than 10 seconds.

Designed and tested per MIL-STD-810 to operate in high shock and vibration applications at industrial operating temperatures of -40°C to +85°C, the HRS-S3 is also certified for operation at altitudes up to 80,000 ft.
