transtec Qualified 8TB HGST Ultrastar Helium-Filled HDD

transtec AG has qualified the 8TB HGST Ultrastar He8 helium-filled HDD for its PROVIGO Windows Storage Server NAS.

Leveraging the inherent benefits of helium, which is one-seventh the density of air, the Ultrastar He8 drive allows transtec to address TCO business challenges with an enterprise capacity HDD designed to improve storage density, while lowering power and cooling costs for data center customers.

transtec selected the Ultrastar He8 HDD to increase overall storage capacity to 288TB per drawer and reduce TCO in its PROVIGO Windows storage server NAS, all while maintaining its current infrastructure footprint by using the standard 3.5-inch form factor drive. The PROVIGO NAS 4262M accommodates 36 3.5-inch HDDs in a 4U 19-inch drawer, including redundant power supplies.

PROVIGO NAS 4262M is a 19-inch 4U rack mountable storage unit configured to customer specifications in terms of storage, memory and CPU configurations. The Windows 2012 Storage Server allows integration and comfortable management not only in Windows environments.

8TB Ultrastar He8 is the company’s second-generation helium-filled HDD.
