Manish Goel has been recruited as SVP and GM for HP storage, replacing Scott, “retiring” effective March 6, 2015, after being named in this position following the acquisition of 3par, where he was CEO, by HP in September 2010 for $2.35 billion, and succeeding Bob Schlutz.

When Scott was recruited, Dave Donatelli, who was EVP of enterprise servers, storage and networking, HP, said at that time: “David’s leadership at 3Par and previously at HP will be critical in taking HP StorageWorks to the next level.”

Goel will report to Antonio Neri, SVP and GM, HP enterprise group.

He was formerly CEO of Gavus, in big data analytics, and previously at NetApp from 2002 to 2013, beginning as senior director of corporate development and ending as EVP of product operations from 2009 to 2013. Before that, he worked at Technology Crossover Ventures, Copper Mountain Networks, Cadence and McKinsey. He is a board’s member of Aerospike and an advisory baord of Spencer Stuart. He got an MBA in finance at University of Pennsylvania Wharton School.

Goel will have the huge charge to reverse the continuous decline of HP storage business with $3.3 billion yearly revenue in storage in FY14 compared $3.5 billion in FY13 and $4.1 billion three years ago, according to company’s official fugures. On its side, IDC calculated that HP was number two behind EMC in the worldwide total disk storage systems market in 4Q14 with $1,456 million in sales, up 4.8% from 4Q13.
