Scality Grew 500% Y/Y in 2014 in Japan
New subsidiary headed by Hiromasa Ebi

Recently named the VP and GM of Scality KK, Hiromasa Ebi joins Scality from Sandisk, and is based in Tokyo.
He has a track record of bringing innovative storage solutions to Japan, and building Japan-based businesses. He drove NetApp’s growth in Japan in the early 2000’s, and then as an executive and country manager, led the growth of Isilon and Fusion-io, which were then acquired by EMC and SanDisk respectively.
“I am very excited to build the Scality business and help Japanese customers realize the incredible value and differentiation of software-defined storage. In my 20 plus years of IT experience, I have never seen such a disruptive opportunity for businesses,” said Ebi.
With the establishment of its Japan entity, Scality will strengthen partnerships with Open Wave Systems, Zimbra Japan, and Two-Five, as well as start joint sales activities with Scality’s global partners such as Hewlett-Packard Development Company, LP and Seagate Technology LLC.
Scality has also announced that it has closed a strategic distribution partnership with BroadBand Tower, Inc. as the first cloud solutions partner in Japan.
It will open its Japanese support desk, which plans to be 24 hours a day during business days by the end of the year, to provide support as well as building a structured entity with sales, system engineering and marketing departments.
“Scality already derives 15% of our business from Japan, and experienced more than 500% Y/Y growth in 2014. In addition, our partnerships with leading hardware providers like HP will enable one stop shopping for enterprise customers.“
Scality’s accelerated Japan investment comes after a record 2014 when two of the largest Japanese telecommunications companies became customers.
