IBM PureApplication Software V2.1.0 provides the ability to deploy PureApplication workload and lifecycle management capabilities on VMware running on your hardware.

This flexibility allows you to utilize existing skills and investment in VMware virtualization and infrastructure management, while taking advantage of the simplification and repeatability of PureApplication workload deployment and management through patterns.

PureApplication Software V2.1.0 includes the following workload-deployment
and lifecycle-management capabilities from PureApplication System:

Pattern engine and deployment
Compatibility for Red Hat Enterprise Linux or Windows based patterns
Autoscaling, workload monitoring, and caching
IBM General Parallel File System (GPFS)
Advanced license management
Reporting, chargeback, and auditing
User and group management
Cloud resource management (cloud groups, IP groups, and environment profiles)
Block storage
Backup and restore of system and catalog

PureApplication Software supports use of Docker containers in patterns. Use PureApplication Software to assemble, deploy, and manage single- and multicontainer Docker applications on PureApplication System W2500 and W1500 models and on PureApplication Software:

You can access thousands of Docker containers available in the open community, or create your own containers, for use as software components with patterns to create both single-container and multicontainer Docker applications.

PureApplication software and systems can be configured to use Docker containers stored in an external Docker registry (for example, DockerHub) or in the included PureApplication resident Docker registry.

The software is designed to securely access data in on-premise databases from off-premise applications and to relocate and reuse application workloads in hybrid clouds.

PureApplication Software is designed to enable you to leverage Chef recipes by integrating PureApplication with existing Chef server to simplify PureApplication configuration management for PureApplication System W2500, W2700, W1500, and W1700 models and PureApplication Software:

Access thousands of Chef recipes in the open community or create your own recipes.
Bring your Chef recipes or access thousands of open community recipes.
Inject fully configured Chef clients into PureApplication nodes.
Configure PureApplication Chef clients to access Chef content from an existing Chef server.
PureApplication Software V2.1.0 requires one of the following:
VMware vCenter 5.1
Red Hat Enterprise Linux v6.6 for 64 bit x86 running either in a VM or on bare metal
