Bridgeworks 10/40GbE iSCSI to FC Gateway for Spectra Logic Tape Libraries

For larger connectivity

Bridgeworks Ltd. announced with Spectra Logic Corp. the certification for the Oresund high performance iSCSI protocol gateways and WANrockIT, the WAN Optimisation and Acceleration solution across the range of Spectra’s T-series tape libraries.

The adoption of 10GbE and 40GbE infrastructures within the virtualized computing environment has created a challenge connecting to peripherals. Whilst many of the new peripherals have adopted 10GbE and 40GbE iSCSI connectivity, the high-speed tape devices such as LTO-5 and LTO-6 drives are only available with the FC protocol. With the Oresund 10GbE and 40GbE iSCSI to FC gateways it is possible to transparently connect Spectra’s tape libraries to the iSCSI SAN.

Many organizations still employ a courier service with off-site tape storage for data backup, which is not practical in this day of exponential data growth. WANrockIT has proven ability to transport data over TCP/IP without the performance penalty that is normally associated with a WAN, expanding Spectra’s solutions portfolio with remote vaulting for DR and archiving.

Combining WANrockIT’s patented Optimization and Acceleration technology with Spectra’s tape library portfolio represents a shift for DR solutions where distance is no longer an inhibiting factor. It automates and accelerates data movement over distance with efficiency and consistency, exceeding 95% bandwidth utilization and bringing performance back whether 20 miles or 2,000 miles apart.

Our customers look to us for new and innovative solutions that provide cost savings, added flexibility and greater security to their data protection platforms. Bridgeworks provides the ability to connect to high performance iSCSI SANS and the benefit of geographic independence,” says Matt Starr, CTO, Spectra Logic. “With the ability to transfer data over long distances at speeds of up to 15TB/hour, WANrockIT allows our customers to think differently about their Data Dispersal strategy through TCP/IP and are no longer restrained by physical distance.
