Based on external Akitio Thunder2 Quad PCIe box and Asmedia USB 3.1 host card

The future is now!” stated Richard Wright, VP sales and marketing, Akitio. “It seems that no matter how fast transfer rates get, people always want and need something faster, so with this product, we combined the fastest and latest technologies of both Thunderbolt 2 and USB 3.1 (Gen2 10G) into one solution to provide our customers with the fastest available storage solution in the market today.

The SuperSpeed USB 10Gb/s (USB 3.1) specification adds a 10Gb/s speed mode that will deliver more than twice the effective data through-put performance of existing SuperSpeed USB over enhanced, backward compatible USB connectors and cables.

In practice, this means that you can start using the latest USB 3.1 (Gen2 10G) interface right now and gain around 30% in transfer speeds for a single USB 3.1 drive when compared with the current USB 3.0 interface. Also, in combination with the external Thunderbolt 2 PCIe expansion box, upgrading the hardware is as simple as plug and play,” explains Wright.

This product will be on display for the first time at CES 2015 in Las Vegas in January 2015.
