Micro Joins SPEC’s Graphics and Workstation Performance Group

Bringi I/O expertise to graphics and workstation performance characterization group

Micron Technology, Inc. joined SPEC’s Graphics and Workstation Performance Group (SPEC/GWPG).

This is an important development in our efforts to continue improving the I/O element within our performance evaluation products, especially SPECwpc for workstation benchmarking and the application performance characterization (SPECapc) benchmarks,” says Paul Besl, SPEC/GWPG chair.

Our SPEC/GWPG membership and participation will help customers better quantify the impact of Micron’s SSD technology in workstation appliances,” says Ed Doller, the company’s VP of storage technology. “The emergence of new SATA, SAS and PCIe flash-based drives will change the way entire industries process data and improve productivity. This collaboration will also enable Micron SSD experts to fine-tune drive performance for the most relevant software applications and hardware configurations in the industry today.

SPEC/GWPG membership can also yield benefits from a marketing standpoint. It gives companies a credible way to differentiate products through reliable third-party benchmark results that can be used for product introductions and posting on the SPEC website.

Micron joins graphics and workstation vendors that are long-time SPEC/GWPG members: AMD, Dell, Fujitsu, HP, Intel, Lenovo, NEC and NVIDIA.
