Chinese Start-Up Memblaze With PCIe SSD at 4.8TB
14?s latency, 3.2GB/s sequential read, 2.5GB/s sequential write
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on November 4, 2014 at 2:59 pmMemblaze Technology Co. Ltd is bringing its new-generation PCIe flash card, the EBlaze3, to Europe.
It’s the first time the technology is available outside China.
Designed to overcome some of most critical storage issues, including capacity, flexibility and latency jitter, the introduction of EBlaze3, added to a new strategic appointment, makes it the time for Memblaze to enter the European market.
The company already ships the PBlaze3 in volume and has announced the doubling of its capacity points where now they can scale to 2.4TB in HHHL and 4.8TB in FHHL single slot format.
A new version of the PBlaze3 card exclusively for, and targeted at, Hyperscale and OCP (Open Compute Project market) its optimised core algorithm and improved technical architecture offer an low latency of 14?s that almost reaches memory access speed. It provides the customer with the ability to define and alter key settings to ensure performance in their specific applications and platforms.
It is designed to wipe out latency jitter, eliminating variations in latency and benefitting users whose industries demand guaranteed performance and where any delay can be critical. Its capacity points mirror those of the PBlaze3. It provides low CPU load, its host system memory usage comes in at 1MB per PCIe SSD card, and its read and write capabilities reach 750,000 IO/s random read / 265,000 IO/s random write and 3.2GB/s sequential read, 2.5GB/s sequential write.
Offering 50 capacity configurations, the card provides users with a choice over the size of card to choose, based on their storage needs.
Memblaze, headquartered in China, is one of an SSD vendors. The company has attracted investors including Bertelsmann Asia (leading), ZTEVC, Dingxing Fund, PMC, Infiniti. Its latest round of funding raised $20 million in August 2014. The funds will be used to research and develop a new generation of flash storage products, expand the company’s geographical reach, and recruit new talent.
Memblaze also announced the appointment of VP of EMEA business development Ron MacLeod, the vendor’s first European recruit; former SanDisk EMEA sales director. He was in Frankfurt at Powering the Cloud to share the strategy behind the company’s move into the region, showcase some of its kit and discuss plans to work with the channel to take the technology to market in various EMEA countries.
Some of the technology on show included:
- Piano Key Technology: an expansion technology which offers 50 capacity options for users ranging from 600GB to 4.8TB.
- MemSmooth: maintains consistently low latency with no jitter. Latency Smoothing and Ultra-Low Latency Wearleveling on device-based technology offer lower latency, as well as decreased CPU idle time and datacentre running costs.
Ron said: “Moving into Europe is a strategic step for Memblaze. The whole region is a hugely important market for us and that’s why we’re already making sure we have strong relationships with the channel. Our new products, added to our existing portfolio, are really going to set us apart from other SSD vendors. It’s a really exciting time to get onboard with us.”
Since its establishment in 2010, the company has grown to be the number one supplier in its home market with a share in excess of 60%. Its customer base contains a number of Chinese technology and hyperscale accounts, including Baidu.
The company will this year double its workforce.
