Nexenta and HGST Creates All-Flash Solution for Tracx

Provider of social media platforms for the enterprise

Nexenta Systems, Inc. announced it has collaborated with HGST, Inc., a Western Digital company, to create an all-flash storage solution for Tracx, a provider of social media platforms for the enterprise.

Tracx

Established in 2010, Tracx provides a solution that enables customers to manage their social media presence. With 100% year-on-year growth, Tracx’s next generation social media management solutions (SMMS) are gaining momentum with operations in the US, Europe, Australia, Brazil, Argentina, South Africa, and Israel.

Like many organizations where data is essential to operations, Tracx needed a storage solution that delivers reliability for the mission critical database that runs the real-time analytical section of its social media platform.

More and more enterprises are leveraging real-time analytics to better tailor their offerings to the evolving needs of their customers,” said Eric Burgener, research director, IDC. “Due to the stringent performance needs of these types of application environments, solid state disks are often part of the mix. Software-defined storage solutions like Nexenta’s can manage this flash storage to optimize not only their performance but their reliability and endurance as well, delivering very cost-efficient solutions that meet enterprise requirements.

Erez Zarum, Dev Ops team leader, Tracx, said: “We originally implemented Nexenta with another line of SSDs but experienced some performance issues that we knew could cause greater issues down the road as we continued to grow. We took Nexenta’s advice and replaced the incumbent SSDs with drives from HGST and have been amazed with the difference in performance and reliability.

Since implementing the all-flash solution, Tracx has reported improvements in performance, capacity utilization and reliability, with no failures to date. IT admins at Tracx can manage the HA storage environment and the high level of IO/s created without suffering performance degradation.

With the new all-flash solution from Nexenta and HGST, we have created a solution that will continue to scale with us. We now have 24/7 BC and ultimately have a solution that we can completely rely on. The environment can be scaled to cope with our annual growth while the TCO remains low,” Zarum added.

Nigel Edwards, VP of EMEA sales and channel marketing, HGST, said: “For a company like Tracx that is working with real-time analytical, mission critical data, HGST enterprise SAS SSD are the perfect solution. As similar organizations have experienced, not all SSDs are created equal. Enterprise SSDs are a way organisations can help ensure that they don’t experience failures and degradation.

Mark Jordan, VP and GM, Nexenta, said: “BC is imperative to operations for enterprises like Tracx, so it’s important they have a storage infrastructure that they can rely on. The all-flash SDS solution is the perfect solution for Tracx as it eliminates vendor lock in, is easily scaled and offers a low TCO. We pride ourselves on helping organisations to step away from the Massively Expensive Storage Systems (MESS) and to create a solution that is the best fit for them.
