Rugged HRS-S3 6Gb SATA SLC SD From Smart High Reliability Solutions

2.5-inch, 120GB to 960GB, sequential R/W of 400MB/s/300MB/s

SMART High Reliability Solutions, provider of current and next-generation solid-state storage solutions specializing in high-performance and high-capacity SSDs for defense, aerospace and industrial markets, announced its HRS-S3 2.5″ SATA 6Gb/s SSD for industrial temperature applications.

Building on the SMART’s long line of SSD products for the defense industry, it delivers performance metrics of 400MB/s sequential read and 300MB/s sequential write speeds. Using reliable single-level-cell SLC NAND flash, it is available in capacities ranging from 60 to 960GB.

A host of reliability features are built into the HRS-S3 starting with a backup power circuit comprised of reliable capacitors which prevent data loss in the event of unplanned power interruptions. The error correction capability of the HRS-S3 allows it to correct up to 28 bits for every 1024 bytes, and end-to-end CRC protection guards against data corruption along the entire data path, delivering an uncorrectable bit error rate (UBER) of 1×10*-17.

The new HRS-S3 SSD offers customers two separate and complimentary levels of data security. First, the Secure Data Elimination Technology (SDET) functionality supports all the major NSA and DOD sanitization algorithms, as well as IRIG. SDET makes it possible to erase and sanitize every block of NAND flash in a compliant fashion. Second, all user data stored on the HRS-S3 SSD is automatically encrypted with AES 256-bit encryption. When the two are combined in the HRS-S3, SDET deletes the encryption key in less than one second, and then erases the entire NAND flash array in less than 10s.

Designed and tested per MIL-STD-810 to operate in high shock and vibration applications at industrial operating temperatures of -40°C to +85°C, the HRS-S3 is also certified for operation at altitudes up to 80,000 ft.

SMART HRS showcased the HRS-S3 solid-state storage solution along with the rest of its industrial and defense SSD product portfolio during the International Telemetering Conference and Exhibition at the Town and Country Resort and Convention Center, San Diego, CA, from October 21 through 23, 2014.
