In 1956 when IBM shipped the world’s first HDD, it cost $59,095/MB in 2013 dollars, and in 1988 Intel shipped its first flash memory chip for an inflation adjusted $1,260/MB. Today the latest evolution of storage, resistive RAM, sells for $34.50/MB, a much more affordable starting point. As shown, given the inflation adjusted price histories of HDD and flash memory, RRAM will not stay at $34.50/MB for long.
