Overland Scalable NEO XL-Serie LTO-6 Libraries (6/80)

Overland Storage, Inc. announced its new NEO XL-Series family of automated tape libraries, combining flexibility, density, performance for backup, archive and DR.

With a scalable design that provides up to 3.5PB of storage capacity with up to 8.6TB per hour data transfer rate performance, NEO XL-Series is the newest member of NEO family of tape libraries designed for midrange and enterprise businesses facing rapid data growth and the challenges associated with long-term storage.

For businesses with rapidly changing IT environments, the scalable design of the XL-Series of tape libraries allows them to grow into, not out of, their long-term backup and archive storage solution. Users can increase their storage capability without the time, disruption and administrative expense associated with reconfiguring the network settings or backup process. The NEO XL-Series starts with 90TB of storage capacity, and provides the ability to increase that storage capacity up to 3.5PB by adding additional modules. Similarly, when business needs change, scaled XL-Series modules can be de-coupled and re-deployed throughout the data center as needed.

The 6U form-factor NEO XL-Series is available in two configurations, utilizing both LTO-5 and LTO-6 tape drive technologies, and scales up to 560 slots and 42 tape drives. The NEOxl 60 supports up to three drives with capacity ranging from 90TB to 375TB, and data transfer rates from 504GB/hour to 4.3TB/hour. The NEOxl 80 supports up to six drives with capacity ranging from 120TB to 500TB, and data transfer rates from 504GB/hour to 8.6TB/hour. A NEOxl Expansion unit that supports 80 slots/6 drives is also available.

• Simplicity and Infrastructure Efficiency: Taking advantage of NEO XL-Series enterprise manageability allows IT administrators to configure, manage and administer the backup and archive process, while utilizing NEO XL’s native partitioning capability enables secure multi-application access to each NEO XL tape library for the optimum in storage efficiency. Packing up to 83TB of storage capacity into each unit of rack space, the tape libraries minimize the use of datacenter rack and floor space, reduce power and cooling requirements, and reduce hardware costs.
