WD and Smartvue Reveal Surveillance Platform Based On My Cloud EX Series

My Cloud EX4 at $1,480 for 24TB

WD announced that its My Cloud EX2 and My Cloud EX4 multi-bay NAS (NAS) solutions combine with the Smartvue surveillance software to enable remote video monitoring and management of IP cameras.

Our expert series of My Cloud products provide a great solution for creative professionals, prosumers and small businesses to save, share, backup, stream and manage their growing libraries of digital data,” said Jim Welsh, EVP, WD content solutions business and WW sales. “Surveillance is a growing use case for many of our customers and the Smartvue integration makes it easy to record, manage and access critical surveillance video.

By installing the Smartvue app within the apps feature of the My Cloud dashboard, the products convert into a video surveillance system capable of supporting up to eight cameras from one web portal. In addition, the mobile app, available for iOS and Android mobile devices, provides viewing and management of camera footage recorded on the products, as well as remote monitoring of live feeds from the cameras. The app also allows users to set automated alerts, motion detection, recording schedules and more. With support for hundreds of IP cameras, users have plenty of options for setting up their surveillance system.

WD has done tremendous work in making their My Cloud products simple to set up and use, while still including powerful features that more advanced users are looking for,” said Martin Renkis, founder and CEO, Smartvue Corporation. “The Smartvue video surveillance platform matches that same formula, combining with WD to create powerful video surveillance systems simple enough for novice users while still boasting the advanced features that more experienced users and small businesses will enjoy.

The surveillance platform for My Cloud EX products will be downloadable and available in October. At launch, the initial languages supported will be English and German. Additional languages will be available later in 2014.
