General Electric Assigned Patent

Optical storage media

General Electric Company, Niskayuna, NY, has been assigned a patent (8,778,568) developed by six co-inventors for the “optical storage media and methods for using the same.”

The co-inventors are Arunkumar Natarajan, Niskayuna, NY, Patrick Joseph McCloskey, Watervliet, NY, Eugene Pauling Boden, Scotia, NY, Kwok Pong Chan, Troy, NY, Matthew Jeremiah Misner, Delanson, NY, and Evgenia Mikhailovna Kim, Ballston Lake, NY.

The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: “An optical data storage medium is provided. The optical data storage medium includes a polymer matrix; a reactant capable of undergoing a change upon triplet excitation, thereby causing a refractive index change; and a non-linear sensitizer capable of absorbing actinic radiation to cause upper triplet energy transfer to said reactant. The refractive index change capacity of the medium is at least about 0.005. The non-linear sensitizer comprises a triarylmethane dye.”

The patent application was filed on Dec. 14, 2010 (12/967,291).
