Teledyne LeCroy Upgrades SAS Verification

To support 12Gb HDD and SSD testing

Teledyne LeCroy, Inc., in serial data test solutions, has upgraded the SAS Verification suite to support SAS 3.0 (12Gb) SSD and HDD testing.

Available as a software option for the Sierra M122/M124 protocol analyzer platform, the suite provides an automated test application that allows storage developers to screen devices for conformance to the SAS 3.0 specification.

As the transition from 6Gb to 12Gb SAS gains momentum, storage integrators can benefit from automated tools that can help them qualify 12Gb drives and raise design confidence for next generation SAS-based storage subsystems,” said Marty Czekalski, president, SCSI Trade Association, and interface architecture initiatives manager, Seagate Technology LLC. “We are pleased that companies such as Teledyne LeCroy, which have a high level of domain expertise in SAS protocol, are providing new tools that will expedite SAS enabled products to the marketplace.”

With SAS 12Gb devices becoming the workhorse in rack mount deployments, storage integrators need cost effective and reliable tools to qualify these new device implementations. The emergence of SAS-based SSD devices in enterprise storage applications also represents a new frontier for test and validation teams as they work to identify the best SSD components for high performance applications.

The SAS Verification Suite includes 60 test cases that verify dozens of test assertions from the SAS 3.0 base specification. The software provides a graphical console that steps through the test process and generates pass/fail reports identifying possible violations. The suite specifically addresses speed negotiation, link layer error recovery, and transport layer retry behaviors. Availability of a turnkey compliance test capability highlights the extendable design of the SAS 12Gb verification platform.

The SAS Verification Suite is part of the SAS Protocol Suite v5.70 to be released in September 2014.
