CMS Products, Inc. announces the issuance by the US Patent Office a patent that covers a method for allowing a PC to boot to an alternate OS by pressing a single button on an externally attached storage device.

The patent for invention number 8,762,699 is for system, apparatus and method for initiating a reboot of a personal computer system by pressing a button on an attached storage device causing the OS on the attached storage device to be booted.

This latest patent makes claims in connection with our technology that allows for an almost instant recovery of a disabled personal computer caused by a failed internal storage device (HDD/SSD),” said Ken Burke, president, CMS.

The present invention helps a user recover operational use of their computer when the internal system drive suffers a software application or OSs failure. The invention consists of an attached storage device with a push button, supporting electronics (capable of formatting and transmitting a data packet to the host computer) and an application program in the host computer that can receive the data packet, process boot files, and force a reboot of the OS with the attached storage device as the boot device.

CMS also owns a variety of patents centered on USB boot, backup and secure erase technologies used to manage valuable user data or corporate IP.
