Half Slim SATA SSD Modules by Cardwave
To plug into HDD connectors, up to 128GB and 256GB
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on July 18, 2014 at 3:05 pmGood embedded design is focused on efficiency. Power, weight and often the size of a device is as important as its performance and price as engineers strive to optimise designs at every level. SSDs have helped to contribute to these design considerations.
Storage solutions have become smaller and more efficient over recent years. Where previously the CompactFlash was seen as a small, compact solution for embedded solutions, now we see the tiny microSD card being used in huge numbers; especially in devices such as the RaspberryPi.
When a new design isn’t an option but there is a drive to save weight and space, some form factors are designed to mate with the same connectors but still deliver the required benefits. An example of this is Half Slim SATA module from Cardwave Services Ltd.
Measuring 54x40mm, it is designed to plug in to standard SATA disk drive connectors yet is a fraction of the size of a full sized optical drive or even a 2.5″ SSD.
Today we are replacing traditional HDDs in rugged laptops and portable computers with the Half Slim SATA module and delivering benefits to customers. While some compromise is necessary in the storage capacity, optimised content means that many customers are able to make the switch.
Smaller, lighter and more power efficient than a HDD, the Half Slim SATA drive is benefiting mobile workers and service companies in several ways:
- Faster and more efficient computing with quicker boot cycles
- Longer in service life of hardware due to light weight parts causing less stress on connectors and mountings
- Simple installation of the Half Slim SATA means that field upgrades are easier
