IBM XIV Cloud Storage

IBM XIV Cloud Storage for Service Providers enables cloud providers to tailor to tenant requirements with efficiency through flexible software licensing.

Its offers feature options and pay-per-need flexibility, empowering cloud providers to cater to tenant requirements with efficiency. With this offering, cloud service providers and MSPs can choose XIV functions based on the needs and cost sensitivities of their clients so that they can pay for what they need, when they need it.

XIV Cloud Storage for Service Providers offers a flexible licensing and pricing model suited to the needs of cloud providers, including a base functionality package for tune-free, consistent high performance for any workload mix, and new chargeable components to license advanced functions:

  • Efficiency: Flash Caching
  • Elasticity: HyperScale Mobility
  • Security: Encryption
  • Continuity: Mirroring

Customers with fewer than three optional features will be able to add features. Customers with three optional features will automatically receive the full set of components, after which there will be no need to order other optional components.

Product previews
IBM intends to introduce an advanced multitenancy function based on policy-driven logical domains for optimal utilization and management of storage, while servicing numerous tenants. Multitenancy will enable more than 120 tenants to securely access and manage data while sharing the same XIV storage system infrastructure.

IBM also intends to introduce XIV integration with the VMware vCloud Suite, empowering cloud providers with XIV simplicity, flexibility, and efficiency in VMware cloud management environments. The vCloud Suite includes VMware vCenter Orchestrator, VMware vCenter Operations Manager, and VMware vCloud Automation Center.

Key prerequisites
An order of a validly configured XIV Storage System Gen3 machine type 2810 or 2812, Model 214 (Full systems: 6 Interface modules, 9 Data modules for a total of 15 modules and feature number 0815 is required), must occur at the same time as an initial XIV Cloud Storage for Service Providers software PID with base functions order.
