NEC HYDRAstor With De-Duped Transfer and Auto Image Replication
Up to 4.1PB/hour and integrated DR
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on May 19, 2014 at 2:55 pmNEC Corporation of America announced new enhancements to its HYDRAstor OpenStorage Suite for Symantec NetBackup by adding Deduped Transfer source side deduplication and WAN-optimized Auto Image Replication (AIR) for DR.
The Deduped Transfer feature maximizes backup performance and reduces network bandwidth consumption by pre-processing data streams on the media server to send only unique blocks of data to HYDRAstor. This feature increases maximum performance of each Hybrid Node by 6x (to more than 40TB/hour) and maximum system performance by 4x (up to 4.1PB/hour or 1.1TB/s for current-generation HS8-4000 storage system with 165 nodes).
The OpenStorage AIR functionality facilitates automatic DR at remote sites for Symantec NetBackup environments, leveraging HYDRAstor’s RepliGrid WAN-optimized replication technology to send only unique compressed chunks of data to the remote site. OpenStorage AIR replicates critical backups from the primary site to the DR site, with each copy in a different NetBackup domain maintained by an independent NetBackup catalog. The media server at the DR site automatically imports the replicated images and updates its catalog, enabling fast recovery if the primary site is completely lost.
“The PBBA and archive markets continue to exhibit double digit growth rates and require advanced functionality for efficient and scalable capacity optimization for enterprise environments,” said Laura DuBois, program VP, storage, IDC. “NEC’s HYDRAstor storage system has established itself as an excellent solution for backup and archive workloads, with a scale-out object store architecture that supports modular scalability, high performance, and integrated functionality for enterprise customers.”
Deduped Transfer is also available for the previous generation of HYDRAstor nodes: with more than 5x performance improvement up to 19.8TB/hour per Accelerator Node and maximum system performance by 3x up to 1.1PB/hour for third-generation HS8-3000 storage systems with 165 nodes.
“With the new Deduped Transfer and Auto Image Replication enhancements, HYDRAstor customers can reduce bandwidth requirements and improve backup process speed and efficiency,” said Gideon Senderov, director of advanced storage, NEC Corporation of America. “We will continue to respond to our customers’ needs and maximize the value HYDRAstor solutions deliver to enterprise environments by further pushing the envelope on efficiency and performance and extending HYDRAstor’s lead as the top performance Purpose-Built Backup Appliance solution available in the market today.”
The new Deduped Transfer and Auto Image Replication features are separately licensed features. Deduped Transfer list price will be $30,000 per HS8-4000 Hybrid Node, and Auto Image Replication list price will be $12,000 per HS8-4000 Hybrid Node.
Both features will be available along with the HYDRAstor 4.2 software release in June 2014.
