HP Autonomy: Backup With Predictive, Social-eEnabled Data Protection
New Backup Navigator, Data Protector Management Pack, performance updates to Data Protector 9.0
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on May 19, 2014 at 2:54 pmHP Autonomy announced several innovations to its lineup of Adaptive Backup and Recovery solutions, designed to meet the dynamic demands of the modern enterprise.
The three new solutions, a predictive analytics application called Backup Navigator, Data Protector Management Pack and performance updates to Data Protector 9.0, deliver insights that enable IT administrators to optimize the allocation of backup resources, resulting in reduced errors, recovery time and overall costs, and improved BC.
“The predictive analytics capability in HP Backup Navigator gives us the ability to easily perform capacity planning and improve device utilization in our HP Data Protector environment,” said Ryan C. Burgess, manager, information technology services, BlueShore Financial. “This enables us to take the guesswork out of the planning process and reduce operational cost.”
Data centers are under siege. With unprecedented data volumes, diverse data formats, mobile workforces, and increasing adoption of cloud and virtualization, yesterday’s backup and recovery models have been rendered obsolete. It is becoming too costly, ineffective and risky to rely on static legacy systems to protect an organization’s vital enterprise information.
HP Autonomy, in data protection with more than 60,000 customers, is pursuing a new and divergent path to bring the backup industry into the modern era. Based on the premise that backup should be adaptive, dynamic and self-aware, Adaptive Backup and Recovery solutions empower organizations to overcome complexity with simple, intuitive, collaborative and real-time data protection.
Backup Navigator, connect, collaborate and share analytical insights
It is a data protection tool based on in-depth operational analytics that allow for navigation of an organization’s backup landscape.
Key features include:
- Dynamic, interactive ‘drill down’ graphical dashboard powered by real-time operational analytics deliver actionable insight to historical, current and future performance.
- Collaborative, enhanced social media capabilities and automated report creation and sharing allows different teams of data center administrators within an organization to automatically share their backup policies and analytics dashboards. Other team members can then respond by marking as a favorite or sharing other related dashboards and reports.
- Real-time, predictive analytics enable businesses to anticipate issues.
- Extensive backward compatibility for previous versions of Data Protector means this tool can be immediately leveraged across the Data Protector global customer base.
Data Protector 9.0, new class of data protection for the enterprise
It offers enhancements that build upon HP’s flagship adaptive, self-aware backup and recovery solution to:
- Support the integration with HP storage and the next-generation federated deduplication capabilities of StoreOnce backup systems.
- Offer rapid recovery of vSphere virtual disks through the new SmartCache feature, saving time and resources and improving administration agility.
- Secure backup workloads in dynamic environments through encryption, protecting deduped data in flight and at rest.
- Support EMC’s family of storage offerings with native support for Data Domain boost.
Data Protector Management Pack, active alerting and event management
With plug-in support for Microsoft System Center Operations Manager, it enables organizations to centrally monitor and report on the health, performance and availability of the entire Data Protector environment.
This product enables IT administrators to;
- Perform discovery and topology presentation of the entire HP Data Protector infrastructure.
- Visually check the status of all the clients and devices within the environment.
- Get alerts and notifications and proactively take actions to resolve issues in the backup environment.
“Traditional approaches to data protection are no longer a fit for today’s data centers,” said David Jones, GM, enterprise data protection, HP Autonomy. “HP Autonomy is reinventing the data protection market by putting to work our strengths-including deep analytics, collaboration, enterprise, cloud and mobility capabilities-resulting in a backup offering that transforms the data center from a reactive to a proactive operation.“
Backup Navigator and Data Protector Management Pack are available.
Data Protector 9.0 is expected to be available next month.
