The following are tips for handling damaged storage devices so data can be successfully recovered:

  • Do not attempt to power up visibly wet devices
  • Do not let a wet HDD or other computer media dry out; place in an airtight bag and contact DriveSavers for appropriate shipping and handling instructions
  • Unplug all electronic devices from outlets, surge protectors and battery backup systems before power is restored
  • If a HDD won’t spin up or makes any unusual noises, shut down the computer immediately and call DriveSavers
