After considering a range of SDS vendors, Shanghai Research Institute of China Telecom chose ProphetStor Federator SDS for its ability to transform existing storage silos and commodity hardware into a scalable storage infrastructure. This combination will provide customers with enterprise storage services and resource management to ensure HA and to meet increasingly strict SLA.

ProphetStor has demonstrated their technical depth and experience as a leader in Software-Defined Storage solutions. We choose ProphetStor because we want to explore the possibilities of Federator for storage orchestration to address the complexity of management and to provide the best next generation software-defined data center solution for our local market,” said Duan Yong, vice director, cloud computing line, Shanghai Research Institute of China Telecom. “Working together with ProphetStor, we will drive R&D on cloud storage solutions based on the elastic characteristics of the cloud and the demands in China to optimize cloud service operation, thus helping our customers gain maximum return on their investment.

Shanghai Research Institute of China Telecom and ProphetStor are partnering on the architecture design and technical specifications for a SDS cloud storage infrastructure to serve as the template for cloud service operations. Federator SDS is providing automatic discovery and abstraction of physical storage resources into virtual pools classified by capabilities and performance, along with centralized management, automated storage provisioning, and dynamic monitoring and scheduling of resources to meet storage demands. The resulting design and specifications from the joint efforts will benefit more companies and institutions in the market and strengthen the adoption of the solutions in China.

ProphetStor is delighted to work with Shanghai Research Institute of China Telecom, which has profound R&D strength, especially in the cloud computing area,” said Eric Chen, ProphetStor CEO. “By combining our respective strengths, we can further enhance the adoption of software-defined storage solutions in China. The Institute is an integral part of the China Telecom operation, and we envision that the collaboration will be beneficial for China Telecom and customers of China Telecom’s services alike.
