Had same position at Oracle.
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on May 13, 2014 at 2:51 pmDataGravity, Inc., an early-stage company, has hired Steve Noyes as VP of engineering.
He joins DataGravity from Oracle, where he was a VP of engineering and helped the company advance its virtualization strategies for SMB and larger enterprise markets.
His background in creating user-friendly software for SMBs and his ability to build an integrated engineering team make Noyes a strategic addition to the DataGravity team, which is aiming to change how enterprises extract value and information from their massive stores of data.
With a total of more than 30 years experience in engineering, Noyes joined Oracle in 2009 after the company purchased Virtual Iron Software, a Linux-based virtualization product. He had been the VP of engineering at Virtual Iron Software and was one of the first employees, joining the company at its inception in 2003. In the six years before the Oracle acquisition, he built an engineering team and created a Java-based management system that was competitive with vSphere. Once at Oracle, he grew his engineering team and helped to strengthen and virtualization program with products built by a large team.
“Steve is a seasoned engineering executive who brings a wealth of expertise in a range of technology areas, including virtualization, distributed systems, file systems, networking and clusters,” said Paula Long, co-founder and CEO, DataGravity. “His experience in delivering products that benefit the end user will help DataGravity as we scale to address the needs of companies struggling to extract information from their structured and unstructured data.“
Prior to his time with Oracle and Virtual Iron, Noyes held executive roles on the engineering teams for Equipe Communications and Avid Technology Incorporated.
At DataGravity, he will lead and scale the engineering team and play a role in bringing the company out of stealth mode and introducing storage products to market.
“The engineering group at DataGravity is committed to making storage more than a simple repository of files and data. We’re not just creating another storage product,” said Noyes. “It’s gratifying working with and building a team that shares the same vision – that we’re here to build something that will wow our customers and change the way storage is perceived. I look forward to working together to change the storage status quo by marrying intelligence with enterprise-grade storage arrays.”
Noyes enjoys spending time volunteering and has used his electrician skills in the Dominican Republic in association with La Romana Good Samaritan, restoring electrical service in a large medical facility.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and a master’s degree in computer science at Worcester Polytechnic Institute before beginning his career at technology companies throughout Massachusetts.
