Updated PernixData FVP Accelerates Any VM, On Any Host

With any shared storage system

PernixData, Inc., in server-side storage intelligence, announced the availability of new PernixData FVP  features designed for ubiquitous storage acceleration.

With the new version of FVP software, companies can accelerate any virtualized application using server RAM and/or flash, making it for deployment in any server environment.

In addition, FVP can be deployed in conjunction with file, block or DAS, ensuring seamless integration with all existing (and future) SAN, NAS and DAS devices. With these new enhancements, The company has established FVP as a platform for enterprise storage acceleration, making server side software a fundamental part of any virtual infrastructure by cost effectively scaling storage performance independent of capacity.

PernixData has taken great measures to make software-based storage acceleration easy to deploy and scale in any virtual data center,” said Colm Keegan, senior analyst, Storage Switzerland. “By creating a solution that seamlessly integrates with any application, host, or storage platform, PernixData has made server-side storage acceleration a strategic infrastructure investment for companies of all sizes.”

Storage is at an amazing inflection point where performance is being extricated from capacity to optimize application behavior and cost effectively scale IO/s, without disrupting years of investment in shared storage infrastructure,” said Satyam Vaghani, CTO and co-founder, PernixData. “By making FVP easy to deploy in any environment, and robust enough to accelerate any virtualized application using flash or RAM, PernixData is making decoupled storage architectures the de facto standard in virtual data centers.”

New Era of Server-Side Storage Intelligence
FVP software virtualizes flash and RAM across servers to create a clustered pool of high-speed resources that accelerate reads and writes to shared storage. By putting storage intelligence into servers, it decouples storage performance from storage capacity for 10x faster virtualized applications, unlimited IO/s (where and when they are needed), and 90% lower storage costs.

New FVP features include:

  • Virtualize any high-speed server resource. FVP lets add RAM, flash or a combination of the two into an FVP cluster, creating an enterprise-wide acceleration tier that is fault tolerant. This maximizes flexibility while ensuring storage acceleration meets every budget and every server environment. FVP is deployed inside the hypervisor as a kernel module (certified by VMware), enabling RAM and flash to be utilized transparently. No changes are required to the application, and FVP avoids the performance and reliability issues seen by alternative acceleration solutions that are deployed as VMs.
  • Optimize any storage device. FVP supports both file (e.g. NFS) and block (e.g. iSCSI, FC, FCoE) protocols, as well as local datastores. This ensures integration into any SAN/NAS/DAS environment. It does not replace shared storage, but rather complements it with a new architecture that decouples storage performance from capacity.
  • FVP ‘metro clustering’ for synchronous replication. FVP is a storage acceleration solution with clustering technology that allows for synchronous replication between hosts for fault tolerance. With the latest version of FVP, this capability is taken one step further. IT administrators can software-define which hosts participate in replica groups, enabling synchronous mirroring to take place between the right hosts in a metro cluster environment.
  • RPO alignment for seamless asynchronous replication. The latest version of FVP software adds new tools to ensure write information stored in server flash and/or RAM for acceleration purposes is always protected when performing asynchronous replication between shared storage devices. This allows companies to get all the performance benefits of server side storage, without compromising existing (and future) tools and procedure for hardware-based DR. Most importantly, it ensures that RPO are always met when using FVP for storage acceleration.

PernixData also announced that it has been named a Cool Vendor in the Cool Vendors in Storage Technologies, 2014 report by Gartner. it is one of four vendors recognized in the report, which covers storage vendors that offer data center managers and storage administrators fresh answers for their storage challenges.
