Starline Integrates 6TB HGST Ultrastar Helium HDDs

Starline Computer GmbH, a producer of high-density storage drawers and RAID systems, announced the integration of HGST 6TB Ultrastar He6 helium-filled HDDs into its RAIDdeluxe RDL-BD64-Series.

This introduction is designed to help IT managers improve storage efficiencies and reduce costs by offering higher density storage systems with lower power for data centre applications such as backup and archive, video-surveillance and other capacity-hungry applications.

The RAIDdeluxe RDL-BD64-Series systems are designed for high-performance, efficiency, expandability and flexibility. The RDL-BD64 (dual) /BS64 (single) features 64 hot-swappable 6GB SAS/SATA HDD drive/SSD bays in a 19-inch 4U rackmount unit. By integrating the 6TB Ultrastar He6 HDDs, and the industry’s only helium-filled HDDs, Starline has leveraged the benefits of HGST’s HelioSealtechnology to offer its customers a more efficient and cost effective storage solution.

Leveraging the inherent benefits of helium, which is one-seventh the density of air, the new 7Stac seven-disk 6TB Ultrastar He6 drive delivers a 5.3 idle watts, runs 4-5°C cooler, and has a reduced weight of 640g, all in a standard 3.5-inch form factor. This helps lower customer TCO on virtually every level: capacity, power, cooling and storage density. It enables Starline to increase the capacity of its RAIDdeluxe RDL-BD64-Series systems by 50% (up to 384TB) and allows a 49% more efficient idle watts-per-TB.

The integration of 6TB Ultrastar He6 HDDs makes RAIDdeluxe RDL-BD64-Series storage systems an attractive offering for data centre managers looking for more capacity with less power consumption, cooling and rack weight, without the need for a data centre overhaul. They also offer high-quality connectors for maximum signal integrity, and larger fans for better air flow-through to prevent overheating. This ensures a more effective and efficient power supply cooling.
