Promise Debuts VTrak x30 and Vess R2000

For backup and virtualized environments

At Interop 2014, PROMISE Technology, Inc. announced additions to its VTrak and Vess lines of storage solutions: the VTrak x30 10Gb iSCSI and Vess R2000 10Gb iSCSI models.

Promise

As datacenters approach 40Gb and 100G bspeeds and the adoption of 16G FC increases, 10G iSCSI is a technology for expanding cloud infrastructure needs. The VTrak x30 10G iSCSI storage system meets the needs of enterprises for applications such as virtualization, backup and cloud computing and offers customers reliability, tailored for IT infrastructures that need an alternative to FC. It has dual active/active RAID controllers, quad 8Gb FC ports or two 10GbE ports, and 4GB cache. The 10G iSCSI VTrak solution extends the VTrak x30 series, which also includes FC solutions.

With the traffic and size of datacenters continuing to grow, there is a demand for cloud infrastructure support. The solution can be deployed to complement non-mission critical FC environments, providing enterprise performance at an affordable price point. Additionally, with 10Gb iSCSI infrastructure used in backup and virtualized environments, the solution is tailored for customers who plan to virtualize their IT infrastructure and move into the cloud. It is vSphere ESX Server v5.1 and VAAI certified and has heterogeneous OS support for Mac OS X, Windows and Linux.

Tailored for virtualized environments, backup and general file sharing applications, the Vess R2000 10Gb iSCSI dual active-active model includes support for the dual active-standby NAS feature, which enables SMBs to explore broader storage applications and possibilities. It is a unified storage solution with FC (8Gbps), iSCSI and NAS (1Gb/s and 10Gb/s) host connectivity in one box that can be used to meet application challenges and requirements in heterogeneous IT environment. As a NAS solution with dual controllers in a single box, it saves costs and space over traditional single controller NAS devices that provide a cluster NAS solution for HA which limits expansion capabilities, doubles the system configuration required and doubles the total amount of disks. Additionally, the Vess R2000 Series supports VMware VAAI which reduces resource overhead on vSphere ESXi hosts, improving performance for storage-intensive operations such as storage cloning, zeroing and more.

PROMISE has been protecting the digital assets of some of the world’s most advanced data centers for years, and we’re pleased to offer new solutions that provides users with more flexibility when building their IT infrastructure,” said James Lee, CEO, PROMISE. “The new Vess and VTrak models offer high-performance and reliability in solutions that are designed for versatility, ease of use and low TCO.

The Vess R2000 10G iSCSI solution is available through the company network of distributors and VARs. The VTrak x30 10G iSCSI solution will be available starting in Q2.
