Special NAB 2014: Attracting 68 Storage Companies

All the news today in relation with this event

2014 NAB Show on April 5-10, 2014, currently taking place in Las Vegas, NV, is the world’s largest B2B media and entertainment show.

It’s now a place where a lot of storage vendors like to exhibit. For one reason: video, and particularly the increasing role of ultra high-definition standards for 4K television displays, production and post-production technology.

In this field, media and entertainment companies need extremely fast processing and transfer rate to manage their movies as well as a lot of storage to execute and archive their big files. This industry has traditionally the habit to buy expensive solutions, being ready to pay for the latest technology to accelerate their workflow, which means excellent customers and high margins for storage vendors.

As you can see, there was a lot of anouncements around high-performance interface Thunderbolt 2 integrated on storage subsystems using HDDs, SSDs and even tapes.

For storage firms focusing on video, the best exposure is NAB that claims this year 93,000 attendees from 156 countries and 1,550+ exhibitors, including 68 storage companies according to our own calculation.

Other main shows appreciated by storage firms are:

  • successful International CES also in Las Vegas, NV in January, focused on consumer technology.
  • decreasing CeBIT in March in Hannover, Germany, but not far to attract a record of storage booths, 97 this year.
  • SNW Europe in October in Frankfurt, Germany, becoming now Powering The Cloud, and just sold by Angel Business Communications to CloserStill Media, a B2B events and media company, for an undisclosed sum, but at the right time for the vendor as the show was flat these past four years.
  • Flash Memory Summit in October in Santa Clara, CA, on flash only, in its eighth year, pretty growing, with attendance up over 25% from 2012 to 2013.
