Quantum Demos StorNext in Cloud

Integration With Adobe, Levels Beyond and Telestream

Quantum Corp. shows a live demonstration of StorNext in the Cloud – a StorNext-Lattus object storage cloud-enabled media workflow running concurrently at its NAB booth and in its customer demonstration facility at Switch’s SUPERNAP data center.

Media production companies relying on StorNext-based workflows for production and archive will now have the ability to integrate private cloud workflows into their facilities as well as enable media sharing worldwide, linking StorNext-based workgroups without maintaining duplicate copies of content.

Quantum’s Lattus-powered private cloud streamlines collaboration between remote groups, improves efficiency and enables automation of common ingest, transcode and delivery operations as a seamless extension of StorNext production workflows. Creative teams can share content in real time over multiple, geographically dispersed locations and maintain a single, durable asset repository, or replicate assets among multiple sites for resiliency and faster access. Working in this cloud-enabled environment also provides the flexibility to optimize the security and integrity of content management, scale capacity up/down to meet short-term needs, and incorporate BC and long-term preservation of content over its lifecycle.

In the NAB demonstration, content is ingested into StorNext 5 platform and moved to Lattus object storage cloud using the Levels Beyond Reach Engine platform and StorNext Storage Manager.

The content in the cloud can be edited locally through StorNext 5 using editing, proxy generation and finishing tools, as shown in the demonstration, and both locally and remotely using new editorial, logging and VFX workflow tools such as Adobe Anywhere.

Editors can also work on content directly without having to download high-resolution originals. Anywhere is designed to eliminate the delay of transferring or duplicating files across locations with the Adobe Mercury Streaming Engine and to remove the expense and hassle of proxy files.

With Telestream’s Vantage, transcoding happens in the secure cloud without making additional copies or moving files.

Finally, content can then be distributed directly from the cloud using Reach Engine to any location, including a head end, uplink or a content provider, such as Netflix, YouTube, etc.

Anywhere adds the ability for real-time simultaneous versioning – eliminating the need to pass project files.

Each component in the system (Quantum, Levels Beyond, Telestream and Anywhere) adds value; combined, the creative workflows are unlimited.

Lattus-M provides fast and durable long-term content inventory for delivery and future monetization by integrating next-generation object storage technology with StorNext Storage Manager in a scalable and efficient disk-based offering that enables policy-based management and rapid retrieval of content from multiple, geographically spread locations at nearline speeds.

Lattus-M is a petascale ‘forever archive’ offering greater durability than traditional RAID, including true self-healing and self-protection capabilities, and providing automatic multi-site protection without the need for replication. The result is an object storage-based cloud infrastructure which is scalable, resilient and disaster-tolerant.

Simon Williams, director, strategic relations, Adobe, said: “Showcasing Adobe Creative cloud with Adobe Anywhere on a StorNext 5 delivers a collaborative workflow solution and is an excellent representation of what is possible. Quantum and Adobe’s vision for the future of production creates a safe and secure evolution for the creative community to keep up with state-of-the-art workflows that facilitate today’s quickly evolving markets and creative opportunities.”

Art Raymond, founder and CEO, Levels Beyond, said: “The Reach Engine content inventory platform is designed to be compatible with the most popular content editors and media tools in use by businesses today. This cutting-edge integration of Quantum’s StorNext 5 appliances and Lattus Object Storage with Reach Engine showcases the benefits of automation in a flexible and cost-effective, cloud-based workflow.”

Paul Turner, VP, enterprise product management, Telestream, said: “We’re excited to demonstrate our Vantage transcoding solution with Quantum’s combined StorNext-Lattus Object Storage offering at NAB. The cloud-based workflow illustrates how integrating Vantage and StorNext makes content production, multi-screen delivery and device interoperability a hands-off process.

Alex Grossman, VP, media and entertainment, Quantum, said: “Changing dynamics in the media landscape require a fresh new look at how post-production workflows are managed. One of the hot topics this week at NAB will be the future of cloud-enabled workflows. Where others are just talking about it, we will show at our booth how broadcasters and post facilities can lower costs and maintain flexibility when managing globally dispersed media collaboration environments. We’ve partnered with companies offering best-in-breed technologies across the workflow to demonstrate how StorNext 5 and Lattus can make this option a reality today.”
