New Line of Pogo Servers and Storage Appliances
Powered by SanDisk and NexentaStor 4.0
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on April 7, 2014 at 2:54 pmPogo Storage, a division of Pogo Linux, Inc., introduced their new line of Nexenta Systems Inc.‘s StorageDirector NexentaStor 4.0 certified Software Defined Storage (SDS) appliances, and their new Iris XF line of servers with SanDisk Corp.‘s SSD.
Both lines are designed to provide significant TCO advantages for Pogo customers.
Iris XF SSD Servers
For the Iris XF line, Pogo specifically chose to incorporate SanDisk CloudSpeed SATA and Optimus SAS SSDs for the endurance profiles and workload management capabilities these drives provide. SSDs can provide superior performance in almost any environment; however, there is a limit to the total number of write cycles an SSD can perform over the life of the drive. This limit – commonly known as a drive’s endurance – is rated by manufacturers in Drive Writes Per Day (DWPD) and is a factor in the overall cost of a drive.
The CloudSpeed SSDs have DWPD ratings from 1 to 50+, allowing Iris XF servers to be adapted for specific workloads – from read-heavy web and application servers, to write-intensive databases and OLTP. The ability to select the correct SSDs from within the same drive family for a given application, allows Pogo to specifically-tailor each system to a customer’s expected R/W workload, minimizing up-front costs and reducing their TCO.
“We are very excited about Pogo’s decision to launch a server line incorporating our CloudSpeed and Optimus SSD products,” said Keita Kitahama, director of strategic business development, SanDisk. “With the huge breadth of capabilities and scalability that SanDisk SSD products offer, Pogo customers can get the right combination of performance and endurance to ensure deployments exceed benchmarks and customer specifications.”
“Pogo has partnered with SanDisk because of the quality and performance of their SSDs, and the flexibility to target the exact endurance level required, as dictated by the customer’s workload and budget,” said Paul Bibaud, VP of product development, Pogo. “We customize all of our offerings to the needs of the customer, and SanDisk SSDs help make that possible. This translates into significant savings for our customers, and minimizes their TCO.”
StorageDirector Nexenta SDS Appliance Pogo’s new line of StorageDirector storage appliances – certified for NexentaStor 4.0 – continues to provide significant TCO advantages over proprietary legacy storage solutions.
With the coming release of NexentaStor 4.0, the StorageDirector is qualified to make the most of the many new and improved features of this updated SDS solution, including:
- 50% reduction in HA failover times
- Simplified administration with the new wizard-driven storage pool, featuring configuration and deployment tools
- Dramatic improvement in performance with support for even higher memory counts
- Significant replication improvements, with a highly-improved AutoSync service Migration of the code base to the Illumos open-source OS for improvements in security, management, and monitoring
As the first Premium Partner in the Nexenta Partner Program, Pogo Storage has more than five years of expertise in engineering and supporting solutions based on the NexentaStor ZFS platform. The enterprise Nexenta SDS platform, integrated with Pogo hardware, is as much of a cost-savings alternative now as it was five years ago.
“The channel community is an important and trusted ecosystem for Nexenta. The latest version of Nexenta reflects the close relationship that Nexenta has with our channel partners and joint customers as we add features and functionality to help businesses save time and money, and eliminate any storage hurdles that they may face,” said Tarkan Maner, chairman and CEO, Nexenta. “We will continue to work closely with Pogo to disrupt the storage market and provide more customers with access to enterprise-quality SDS solutions at a lower cost than legacy storage vendors.”
“As one of the Nexenta’s oldest channel partners, we are excited to introduce our newest line of StorageDirector storage appliances, certified for NexentaStor 4.0,” said Erik Logan, CEO of Pogo. “Software Defined Storage, specifically Nexenta, is a disruptive technology that has demonstrated its ability to offer enterprise features while lowering overall TCO for our customers.“
