Plextor M6M mSATA SSD for Notebooks

Up to 512GB, Marvell controller and Toshiba flash chips

Plextor, brand of storage and multimedia products owned by Shinano Kenshi of Japan, announces the M6M mSATA SSD, a compact and fast SSD.

The new M6M is capable of matching the performance of desktop drives with maximum random R/W speeds of 94K IO/s/80K IO/s and sequential read and write speeds of up to 520MB/s and 440MB/s.

Installing an M6M in an ultra-thin notebook, NUC-style PC, or tablet PC maximizes system responsiveness and battery life.

The M6M is all about real-world performance. We’ve optimized this compact SSD to deliver the best possible computing experience. We used the latest generation of components, then included a new version of True Speed for even smoother long-term operation, and focused on increasing the random speeds to give the fastest everyday operating performance,” said product manager Yaping Zheng.

M6M is energy efficient with support for the DEVSLP standard. When the host device is sleeping, the SSD reduces its power consumption to 2mW to extend battery life, and it resumes in only 100ms.

Featured in the M6M are the server-grade Marvell 88SS9188 controller, Toshiba Toggle flash memory, and firmware developed by Plextor’s in-house team.

Plextor’s exclusive True Protect technology is included, which supports advanced data integrity checks and 256-bit AES full disk encryption for data confidentiality on the move.

In addition to offering a maximum random read speed of 94K IO/s, 14K IO/s faster than its predecessor, the M6M series now includes a 512GB mSATA.

It makes it practical for ultra-light notebook users to store and work with large videos, high-resolution images, and audio files.

To ensure stability and a compatibility, the M6M SSD was tested during development. Every individual SSD is put through tests that simulate real-world use and an extended burn-in procedure to guarantee reliable operation.

The M6M SSD will be available in the second quarter of 2014 in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB capacities.
