Toshiba Canvio Wireless Adapter ($80)

Toshiba’s Digital Products Division (DPD), a division of Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., introduced the Canvio Wireless Adapter, an innovation that adds wireless networking capabilities to any traditional external HDD, allowing users to share, stream and access their content from any place, on any device.

“In today’s increasingly wireless world, it’s becoming more important that our storage solutions have networking capabilities,” said Maciek Brzeski, VP of product marketing and development, branded storage products, Toshiba America Information Systems. “This device brings yesterday’s external HDDs into the 21st century with features that consumers demand such as easy access to their content wherever they are.”

The Canvio Wireless Adapter makes it simple to add high-capacity storage to a smartphone or tablet by wirelessly uploading pictures, videos and documents to an external HDD instead of taking up precious space on the mobile device. It also makes it easy to share content to up to eight other devices at once – family and friends can access and download photos and videos and teams can access presentations and documents in business meetings. Users can also play and enjoy their entire digital media library stored on an external HDD by streaming them to a tablet or smartphone.

The adapter can be used in a number of settings from a hotel or dorm room and even on the road, depending on the user’s mobile lifestyle.

The Canvio Wireless Adapter is compact. By simply connecting the adapter to an external HDD and a USB power source, tablet or smartphone users can now wirelessly access the drive to store, share and stream their content. Both Android and iOS apps are available.

Plus, the device includes an Internet pass-through mode, allowing users to simultaneously maintain their connection to the web and the Canvio Wireless Adapter when connected.
