Intel 2.5-Inch 7mm 6Gb SATA SSD 730 for Gamers and Content Creators

240GB at $249, 480GB at $489

Intel Corp. unveiled its SSD 730 Series, an SSD for gamers and workstation users alike.

Intel Solid-State Drive 730

Both the NAND and the third-generation Intel controller have been infused for quality and reliability, and factory tuned for performance.

Delivering low latency and consistently high throughput, the 730 helps PCs respond quickly. The drive is protected by a 5-year warranty.

It is available for pre-order, and will be available for purchase starting on March 18.

Highlights of SSD 730:

  • Performance. The company qualified components and pushed factory performance tuning limits by boosting the controller speed by 50% and NAND bus speed 20%. The result, 50µs read latencies, transfer rates of up to 550MB/s sequential reads, and up to 89,000 IO/s random reads.
  • Data Center DNA. Gain endurance – up to 70GB of writes per day compared to the industry typical 20GB per day-and enjoy peace-of-mind dependability throughout the life of the drive with advanced firmware algorithms, delivering performance across all data types.
  • RAID Performance Scaling. Achieve storage performance for the most demanding usage models with RAID-0 configurations combining two or more SSD 730 drives with an Intel platform supporting Intel Rapid Storage Technology for throughput exceeding 1,000MB/s.
  • Quality and Reliability. 3rd generation Intel controller, optimized firmware, and 20nm NAND technology provide dependable up-time for intensive storage workloads-backed by a limited five-year warranty.
  • Capacities: 240GB, 480GB
  • Components: Intel 20nm NAND flash memory MLC
  • Form Factors: 2.5 inch
  • Thickness: 7mm
  • Weight: Up to 78 grams
  • SATA 6Gb/s Bandwidth Performance (Iometer Queue Depth 32, 128KB3 IO): Sustained Seq Read Up to 550MB/s, Sustained Seq Write: Up to 470MB/s
  • SATA 6Gb/s Read and Write IO/s (Iometer Queue Depth 32): Random 4KB4 Reads: Up to 89,000 IO/s, Random 4KB4 Writes: Up to 74,000 IO/s
  • Latency (average sequential): Read: 50µs (TYP), Write: 60µs (TYP)
