Protecting data stored on removable storage device

The co-inventors are Alistair K. Chan, Bainbridge Island, WA, Roderick A. Hyde, Redmond, WA, Jordin T. Kare, Seattle, WA, Lowell L. Wood Jr., Bellevue, WA, and Victoria Y.H. Wood, Livermore, CA.
The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: “A system for protecting data stored in a memory of a removable data storage device is provided. The system includes a personal electronic device, a removable solid state data storage device operatively coupled to the personal electronic device, and a circuit configured to protect data stored in a memory of the data storage device in response to detecting impending removal of the data storage device from the personal electronic device.“
The patent application was filed on Dec. 29, 2011 (13/340,424).
