MSys Works With Storage Service Companies
In developing Microsoft Virtual Disk Service/Volume Shadow Copy hardware providers
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on February 10, 2014 at 2:45 pmMSys Technologies, a storage, virtualization, telecommunications, and test automation company, has extended its expertise by working with a number of storage-domain companies in order to develop and deploy VDS/VSS hardware providers.
Storage companies, who manufacture storage solutions such as NAS, SAN, cloud storage products, etc., have been approaching MSys for the past few years to tap into its expertise in development in VDS/VSS.
What Is VDS/VSS?
Virtual Disk Service (VDS) is a Microsoft technology that extends the existing storage capabilities of Windows OSs (including Server) at the request of scripts, applications, or end users.
VSS stands for Volume Shadow Copy Service or Volume Snapshot Service. This is a dynamic Windows service that enables backup while applications that create data are running. Due to this complexity, the backup operation needs to closely coordinate with the application running the backup, the storage hardware and software. VSS service ensures that the data on the disk is fully consistent even if there is a write or read lock.
MSys’s Engagements
MSys has helped enhance VDS and VSS providers of several storage clients. For one particular client, it helped add support for the latest VDS 3.0 specification and newer versions of the controller firmware. In order to build these applications, it has used various technologies and languages, such as C++ and COM. The development environments MSys used include Visual Studio 2012 on Windows PCs. Solutions enabled the clients to showcase their products alongside some of the backup and restore solutions like Tivoli Storage Manager.
MSys is not new to VDS/VSS and has been providing these services to several clients since 2010.
Beyond these engagements, MSys has also provided VDS/VSS test automation solutions for a few clients. For this purpose, its test automation tool, MTAS, was used.
“Our VDS/VSS solutions have helped a number of our customers realize the best potential that these solutions offer. This has also increased their go-to-market time. We are happy that we could provide them enormous value for money,” said Sanjay Sehgal, CEO, MSys.
MSys has years of experience in storage management.
Clients benefit in several ways:
- provides management software as well as customized solutions for both disk arrays and flash storage arrays
- not only is a storage service company but also comes with expertise in virtualization, embedded systems, and telecommunication
- reducing clients’ expenses and go-to-market time.
