Backblaze Taps SunGard Availability Services

SunGard Availability Services, , a registered trademarks of SunGard Data Systems Inc. and provider of information availability through managed IT, cloud and recovery services, has completed the implementation of a colocation service for Backblaze, Inc., an online backup provider, to provide massive data center expansion space for their unlimited backup and recovery solution.

“Backblaze runs one of the largest cloud storage systems in the world and our IT needs have changed dramatically in the last few years. We needed a new data center partner, and SunGard Availability Services’ Sacramento colocation facilities were well-situated and a great space for our expansion,” said Gleb Budman, CEO, Backblaze. “Based in the safest geological area in California, SunGard Availability Services’ Rancho Cordova facility was optimal due to the low risk of tornadoes, floods and earthquakes, as well as the low cost.“

An IDC study found that data is doubling every two years, but IDC believes that only about a quarter of that data is being properly protected. To help protect consumer and business data, Backblaze offers unlimited online backup services for $5 per month per computer. The online backup service is built on their cloud storage system, which has grown to house more than 85PB of information. Since 2007, Backblaze’s IT needs have grown too, from one cabinet of colocation space to more than 200 cabinets with the capacity for half an exabyte of storage.
