This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on January 31, 2014 at 2:58 pmKroll Ontrack Inc. announced the availability of Ontrack PowerControls version 7.1.
It allows IT administrators to access, search and restore externalized data from Metalogix RBS (Remote BLOB Storage), including externalized Microsoft SharePoint 2013 shredded files, as well as collect and export data from a live Microsoft Exchange Server.
“BLOBs, or Binary Large Objects, consume 80-95% of SharePoint storage space, and storing that content natively is extremely expensive and can result in poor performance,” explains Tom McCaffrey, product director of enterprise solutions, Kroll Ontrack. “As a result, many organizations leverage RBS solutions like Metalogix to externalize BLOBs to less expensive storage, dramatically reducing SQL database volumes and costs while improving database performance. Ontrack PowerControls 7.1 enables IT administrators to rebuild these externalized databases, including shredded SharePoint files, during the granular restore process and effectively locate and restore critical files.“
In addition to restoring externalized RBS data, it addresses the need to respond to legal requests for the defensible collection of potentially relevant data, including real-time data stored within a live Exchange environment. Through advanced collection capabilities, it enables IT administrators to leverage one tool and a defined workflow process to target, search and export data from both a live Exchange environment as well as from an Exchange or SharePoint backup. This feature broadens an organization’s collection parameters and provides the legal team with a data collection for ediscovery analysis and review.
