V2.5 of Maginatics File System
Improves performance, reliability and simplifies operations of mission-critical enterprise storage.
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on January 29, 2014 at 3:04 pmMaginatics Inc., in distributed enterprise storage solutions, announced the availability of version 2.5 of its Maginatics File System (MagFS), the foundation of the Maginatics Cloud Storage Platform (MCSP).
MCSP is a new breed of storage technology that has been designed for software-defined data centers and the cloud, providing enterprises with a solution to manage their growing unstructured data while enabling agile IT and business growth.
With MagFS 2.5, customers will gain access to key enhancements including:
DR and data protection mechanisms:
- One-click DR that delivers Zero RTO in case of a disaster occurrence.
- User-visible snapshots that enable user-accessible DR as well as recovery of inadvertently deleted files.
Simplified management and operations:
- Multi-domain Active Directory (AD) support that provides increased compatibility for complex AD environments.
- Web client service to access shares when a native client is not available.
- Management notifications to notify system administrators or other parties via email when there are new system events.
Lower TCO:
- Reduced Management Server VM disk requirements – now starting at 50GB (resizable). Disks can be re-sized to scale with your deployment needs, providing system administrators total control over both provisioned infrastructure and operating costs.
- Simplified pricing model effective immediately that aligns with evolving customer requirements.
Other enhancements available in MagFS 2.5:
- Increase in system performance enabled by refactored data and control plane operations.
- Increased scalability with a single logical namespace that can scale to multiple petabytes.
- Expanded partner ecosystem with the addition of support for the Ceph and Cleversafe object-storage systems.
The enhancements delivered in MagFS 2.5 will help customers mitigate many of the key storage IT issues that arise in distributed enterprises related to data management, accessibility and day-to-day operations. In addition, this release expands the Maginatics partner ecosystem and continues to provide customers with more choices both for deployment options and back-end cloud storage solutions to meet their needs.
“We have partnered with Maginatics as we endeavor to benefit from the tremendous innovations in cloud-based storage infrastructure,” said Richard Andersen, CEO, ShareVault. “ShareVault is a mission critical SaaS application and the performance, system reliability and DR enhancements delivered by MagFS 2.5 are paramount to our business.”
Typically, legacy storage solutions have featured monolithic architectures and have been designed to scale-up incrementally. With the transition to software-defined data centers and workload migration into the cloud, this legacy paradigm introduces tremendous challenges related to scale, performance, cost and day-to-day operations. Because of their design, these legacy solutions present a bottleneck, making them unsuitable for the evolving enterprise that is highly distributed, largely virtualized and in need of extreme scalability. This combination of requirements demands a next-generation storage architecture that can remove today’s bottlenecks and deliver massive scale-out in the cloud, providing enterprise-grade end-to-end security along with performance gains that extend from the data center to every client endpoint.
“Maginatics’ Cloud Storage Platform and Cleversafe’s object-based storage solution will enable our enterprise customers to build highly-scalable and resilient storage solutions on-premises in a very cost effective way,” said Chad Thibodeau, director of technical alliances, Cleversafe, Inc. “With these latest enhancements from Maginatics, our customers will have the ability to seamlessly scale a single logical namespace from entry levels to multiple petabytes, resulting in a truly elastic cloud storage model.”
Architected for software-defined environments and the cloud, the Maginatics Cloud Storage Platform integrates with virtually any public, private or hybrid cloud to deliver these benefits to customers:
- Simplified day-to-day operations enabling agile IT
- Ability to manage large amounts of unstructured data at a fraction of the cost of other solutions
- Secure mobile and remote access to centrally-managed data for increased workforce productivity
- Reduced TCO for storage
“We are seeing increasing demand among enterprise customers to migrate and consolidate their existing workloads into cloud environments,” said Jay Kistler, CTO and co-founder, Maginatics. “The Maginatics cloud Storage Platform is a game changer. Our software-defined architecture solves some of the most business-critical storage problems faced by enterprises today, including NAS replacement and consolidation for distributed organizations, and migration of scale-out workloads such as those found in media and entertainment to the cloud. We are well-positioned as an emerging leader in distributed enterprise storage solutions for software-defined environments and the cloud.”
MagFS version 2.5 is available since January 15, 2014. Current MagFS term- and perpetual-license customers will be able to upgrade to MagFS 2.5 at no additional cost. As with all MagFS versions, pricing is based on license term and actual capacity used; there are no per-seat or per-user fees.
