Phoenix International: IRPC24 4004 Disk Array With 24 HDDs/SSDs
Scales up to 192 drives, built on Dot Hill RAID stack
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on January 16, 2014 at 3:18 pmPhoenix International Systems, Inc. introduced its RAID controller technology for its RPC24 4004 Series drive magazine based storage solution.
The system was introduced at MILCOM 2013.
The RPC 4004 Series is available in a variety of configurations for 2.5-inch SSDs and 2.5-inch HDDs. Each converged interface storage array includes two four-port controllers and can be configured in the field with eight 16Gb FC ports, eight 10Gb iSCSI ports, or a combination of four 16Gb FC and four 10Gb iSCSI ports. IT managers often use FC for the storage network within the data center, and iSCSI for replication and other data management services outside of the data center. These storage arrays are backward-compatible with 8Gb/4Gb FC and 1GbE iSCSI networking solutions such as switches and HBAs. The 12Gb SAS models are backward-compatible with 6Gb SAS investments. All 4004 models are metadata compatible with previous generation arrays, so that customers can accomplish data-in-place migration by upgrading to 4004 generation controllers.
All 4004 solutions are built on Dot Hill System Inc. ninth-generation RAID stack, which delivers up to 100,000 IO/s from disk, sustained sequential read performance of up to 6,400MB/s and writes of up to 5,300 MB/s. The RAID Companion Processor allows the solutions to deliver performance gains at aggressive price points.
The solutions also integrate the performance tuning and optimizations of the previous-generation models, which includes streaming performance optimization to handle randomized, sequential workloads. The company’s latest firmware utilizes a proprietary adaptive read-ahead algorithm that analyzes workloads and fine tunes options to optimize the performance of specific kinds of workloads, delivering better response. The series scales up to 192 drives and allows customers to mix drive types, including HDD and SSD, for effective allocation of storage resources, based on capacity and performance needs.
The company’s SimulCache technology leverages redundant RAID controllers, thus eliminating the performance degradation associated with conventional cache mirroring. The implementation of a high-speed dedicated PCI-Express bus streamlines write performance resulting in overall system responsiveness, driving faster application throughput. Dual-redundant RAID controllers, dual power supplies and dual fans bring uptime figures to 99.999% availability, so customers don’t experience downtime or data loss.
Featuring a capacity of twenty four drives, the RPC24 4004 series includes two removable magazines containing up to twelve solid state disk or HDD drives, each housed in rugged 2U (3.5″) panel height, 19.5″ deep enclosure. Incorporating aluminum and steel in its construction, it series weighs 51 lbs with a full complement of 24 SSDs, is less than 20″ deep and is certified to military specifications MIL-STD-810G and MIL-STD-461E.
