NextComputing Integrates Seagate 1200 SSD Enterprise SSD
Into compact and portable servers
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on January 16, 2014 at 3:11 pmNextComputing, LLC, a manufacturer of small footprint, performance computers, announced the integration of the Seagate 1200 SSD to its family of dense servers and portable workstations.
Offering storage capacities up to 800GB per disk with endurance of up to 16TB DWPD (Drive Writes per Day) combined with a 12Gb SAS interface speed, the 1200 provides NextComputing’s customers with a fast and reliable flash-based storage in the small systems.
The increasing demand for higher performing storage in areas like cloud computing has led many enterprises to choose flash-based solutions. However, there are many other applications where high-speed storage is required outside a data center environment.
NextComputing specializes in bringing server-level performance to systems that work largely outside the enterprise or in multiple locations throughout an enterprise. The 1200 SSD fits with the company’s goal to provide the fastest possible storage solutions to solve tough computing problems in any environment.
NextComputing systems such as the Nucleus RM Capture 20X2 feature high storage capacity, processing, memory, and PCIe expansion in a compact, 20-inch deep, 3RU rack mount chassis with twenty removable 2.5-inch drives. Utilizing1200 SSDs and compatible RAID controller hardware, this system now offers up to 16TB of SAS SSD storage in a compact, deployable package with IO/s and sustained data rates rivaling larger, heavier systems.
Likewise, NextComputing’s portable servers such as the Radius EX Plus now offer up to fourteen removable 1200 SSDs for 11.2TB of storage. This allows users of data-intensive applications, such as those used in signals intelligence gathering or oil field seismic measurement, to take the same type of computing normally used in a server room or lab environment into the field.
1200 SSD offers several advantages
over other SSD solutions and traditional HDDs:
- Capacities up to 800GB
- Up to 110K / 40K IO/s random R/W performance
- Up to 750MB/s sequential read, 500MB/s sequential write performance
- 12Gb SAS interface (backwards compatible with 3Gb and 6Gb SAS)
- Self-Encrypting Drive (SED) and FIPS SED models with Seagate Instant Secure Erase technology
- High endurance (up to 14,600TB lifetime writes for 800GB model) and 16TB DWPD
- Multi-path I/O features help ensure high data availability with failover redundancy and no single point of failure
- SAS error-control capability enables more robust drive-level error correction to help ensure the integrity of data during the storage process
- Power loss data protection and full path data protection
- Multi-layered error recovery technology with advanced error detection/correction encoding optimized for NAND flash.
“As a longtime Seagate OEM partner, NextComputing has relied on Seagate enterprise storage technology to solve unique computing problems in several verticals that need high-performance computing capabilities outside the data center,” said Bob Labadini, president and CTO, NextComputing. “We immediately realized the Seagate 1200 SSD fulfilled a need with several of our customers who require extremely high performance storage, coupled with great reliability and data security features not found in any other SSD product.”
“Whether it’s our enterprise HDDs or our recently refreshed NAND-based SAS products like the Seagate 1200 SSD, NextComputing’s track record of packing very dense storage configurations into their powerful, transportable servers provides further proof that our most recent SSD technology is able to help our valued customers deliver data and performance solutions to the demanding needs of the enterprise market,” said Darwin Kauffman, Seagate VP enterprise SSD business group.
