iomartcloud Offers Cloud Backup Based on vSphere Data Protection

First european member of Vmware service provider program

iomartcloud Group plc has become the first European member of the VMware Service Provider Program to offer backup to the cloud services based on vSphere Data Protection and vSphere Data Protection Advanced.

Powered by EMC Avamar, vSphere Data Protection 5.5 and Advanced feature storage for backups, capabilities to accelerate recovery, and integration with vSphere.

The backup replication feature in the advanced version works to copy backups of data into the cloud through encrypted replication, without requiring add-on licensing or additional infrastructure components like WAN accelerators. As a service provider the company can build out these backup to the cloud offerings with the availability of vSphere Data Protection 5.5 Advanced.

Bill Strain, CTO, iomartcloud, said: “We are proud to be able to deliver another simple yet innovative option for VMware customers who require SLA-backed protection for their mission-critical data. iomartcloud will offer a fully integrated option for customers of vSphere Data Protection 5.5 Advanced to either backup their data off-site or choose a full DR option for their mission-critical data.

Backup to the cloud is becoming an important part of any business planning and many organisations are starting to choose to replicate their data off site to secure and redundant data centers such as those owned and managed by iomartcloud.

BC continues to be a key driver for the adoption of virtualization,” said Gaetan Castelein, senior director of product management, storage and availability, VMware, Inc. “With the new replication capabilities of vSphere Data Protection 5.5 Advanced, customers can now protect their data both on premise and in the cloud. We’re delighted that iomartcloud has chosen to partner with VMware to extend their cloud backup services with vSphere Data Protection 5.5 Advanced.
